We helped out with redeveloping in a day a small mobile application for a client. The app was deployed on iOS and Android, and played back various pre-recorded sound clips that parents could play to their children. Also featured was the ability for a user to record their own clips for playback.
The other day while working on a project we needed to gauge the speed of AIR on mobile, and to do so we created a stress test to see just how fast the latest AIR 3.6 SDK was. We created a small AIR application using Starling and decided to share it with the community. The application creates 1000 particles which are emitted by two emitters, one produces 500 Cowlorful Cows and the other 500 GrindheadGames logos. It seems to run at a solid 30FPS on a Samsung Galaxy S3 and an Apple 4S, however we would love to hear performance reports from other mobile devices, so please leave a comment if run the test yourselves.
We have made a zip folder for the Starling Benchmark so that you can download the code and run it yourself. Instructions are included how to get the project to compile, but leave a comment if you get stuck. There is also a precompiled APK in the build folder, so you can run the test on Android without having to compile if you want to. You will have to set up development certificates to get the application to compile for iOS, there is no precompiled file for the platform included.
Another year, another indie game! We have been hard at work on a new indie game, and are proud to announce: Davey Jones: Tower Defence. As the name suggests, this is a tower defence game!
Davey Jones: Tower Defence will initially be released worldwide on web portals such as Kongregate as a free to play game. We will then port the game to Android and iOS devices, including more content and additional DLC (Downloadable Content Content). This content will also be available to players that play online but won’t be available until the launch of the mobile versions.
We’re lucky to be working with Letsbrock on the project, he is a brilliant illustrator and designer and has done a great job directing an old school, 8bit style. We are very happy to have him on board and have created some screenshots of the game to show you:
LetsBrock has also enlisted the help of LittleBrock who has created some 8-bit shanty music to serenade you as you build up your defences. We have uploaded the main theme to SoundCloud for you to preview – have a listen and let us know what you think in the comments!
We are big fans of other games in this genre, such as Fieldrunners, the Bloons series, Kingdom Rush and of course, Onslaught!
What are your favourite Tower Defence game(s), if any ? Is there anything you would like to see in Davey Jones: Tower Defence ?
We created a HTML5 website for Sky owned WIFI service The Cloud with RPM that was targeted for mobile browsers. The website had to display well on tablets and phones, supporting both iOS and Android. The project was promoted in several London underground stations and a was prize offered to users who completed a questionnaire.
